We made a formal response this morning to a survey put out by the National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC) as part of that group’s annual State Summaries project. The annual NSGIC survey asks a small set of standard questions to try to develop a picture of the status of GIS Coordination across the nation.
This year, we asked pretty much the same questions of DGDC members to gain their insight before responding for the state to NSGIC.

The Executive Council of the Delaware Geographic Data Committee (DGDC) will meet on Thursday, January 6, in Dover. The draft agenda (PDF) includes a continued discussion of the Delaware Geospatial Strategic Plan, discussion of a possible 2011 orthophotography project, consideration of new leadership and direction for the for the DGDC Standards Committee, and a review of the new Delaware Geospatial Data Exchange.
The meeting will start at 10:00 a.m., in room 219 of the Haslet Armory, at 122 William Penn Street, in Dover. The Executive Council is charged with oversight of GIS Coordination in Delaware and works closely with the full membership of the DGDC.

A draft agenda (PDF) is now published for the October 7 meeting of the Executive Council of the Delaware Geographic Data Committee (DGDC).
The group will continue its work on a draft Business Plan to achieve the goals outlined in the Geospatial Strategic Plan for Delaware (PDF) that was approved by the Executive Council in July and reviewed with the full DGDC membership at the September 23 quarterly DGDC meeting.

An agenda (PDF) has been posted for the next meeting of the Delaware Geographic Data Committee. The DGDC will meet starting at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 23, in Room 220 at the Kent County Administration Building, at 555 Bay Road (Route 113), in Dover, Delaware.
The DGDC Executive Council has voted to approve a Geospatial Strategic Plan for Delaware (PDF). The plan, developed for Delaware by Applied Geographics, was created under a was funded by a Cooperative Assistance Program (CAP) grant provided by the FGDC and the USGS.
The plan is based on an open workshop meeting of the Delaware GIS Community and a series of small-group meetings and discussions with important stakeholders, including local and county governments, state agencies, the University of Delaware, and others. The DGDC Executive Council took an active role in the development, drafting and editing of the plan.

A draft agenda has been posted for the July 8 meeting of the DGDC Executive Council. The draft agenda (PDF) includes continued work on the draft Delaware GIS Strategic Plan and a draft Business Plan to carry out the first recommendation of that Strategic Plan.
The Executive Council will also hear about on-going data-development and data-sharing projects, consider draft metadata and parcel polygon standards proposed by the Delaware Geographic Data Committee as a whole, and consider the creation of a new Transportation Data Subcommittee.
The DGDC Executive Council is a high-level council to help coordinate the activities of the Delaware Geographic Data Committee (DGDC). It includes representatives from the some of the major Delaware cabinet agencies involved in GIS data, the federal government, Delaware’s counties and the DGDC at-large.
The midyear meeting of the National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC) starts on Sunday morning, March 7, in Annapolis. Delaware’s delegation will be Sandy Schenck, from DGS, and me (Mike Mahaffie). We’ll try to post updates and send along information that we gather. We’d also love to hear what you’d like us to try to learn on your behalf.
The Virginia Geographic Information Network (VGIN) Advisory Board has approved a 2010-1015 GIS Strategic Plan (PDF).
The plan, developed under a grant from the FGDC as part of the 50 States Initiative, was approved at the January 6 meeting of the Advisory Board.
The plan includes a snapshot of the current state of GIS in Virginia, a shared vision for where the GIS community wants to go, strategic goals and next steps to take them there.

The Executive Council of the Delaware Geographic Data Committee (DGDC) met on Thursday, December 17, 2009, and discussed a preliminary draft outline of the Delaware GIS Strategic Plan now under development by the DGDC. The Council also voted to move forward with a possible 2011 update of orthophotography for parts of Delaware.
