Delaware Geographic Data Committee

The Delaware Forest Service recently completed a Statewide Forest Resource Assessment using GIS. The purpose of the Statewide Assessment was to identify high-value landscapes in Delaware within which cost-share funding and staff time should be prioritized. Twenty-three input datasets were incorporated, including, for example, high-productivity soils, forest health risk, and proximity to existing sawmills. A weighted overlay analysis was carried out using Spatial Analyst, using a weighting scheme determined by the Delaware Forest Stewardship Committee. The results of this study will assist in the prioritization of Federal and State funds in coming years. Additionally, the Statewide Assessment spurred the development of several novel datasets that will be of use to the Forest Service and other groups in the future.

The City of Dover utilizing GIS has created a unique web mapping application for special events and damage assessment. The application is based off the mobile application the City uses for the twice a year NASCAR event.

The Chesapeake Science and Security Corridor (CSSC) brings together ten partners in three states to ensure a successful BRAC implementation at Aberdeen Proving Ground and high quality of life for existing and future residents those who live and work in our growing defense community. A web-based GIS application has been recognized as a critical planning tool that can be used to understand the geographic complexities associated with Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) and make informed decisions to help adjust to this change.

For years the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) Planning Review Division managed the land development review process using spreadsheets, discussion, and institutional knowledge. This approach was effective for a small volume of projects, but as Delaware continues to grow, so does the need to manage information.

Methods of integrating and visualizing Delaware travel data are discussed and demonstrated through a series of maps and graphics. Information is taken from many areas and sources including traffic counts, GPS travel studies, routing, traffic management, travel demand forecasting, and congestion management.  Related research and projects with DelDOT and the Delaware Center for Transportation are also discussed.

To ensure accessibility for individuals with disabilities along Delaware roads, the JMT Technology Group developed ADAMobile, a field solution that provides the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) with the ability to collect information about pedestrian facilities based on the ADA Standards for Accessible Design.  ADAMobile provides the capability to perform real-time updates from the field to the office – and back to the field.  This presentation will demonstrate the functionality of ADAMobile and its deployment for the Delaware Department of Transportation as well as how the use of the application can benefit government agencies and the communities they serve.

The Homeland Infrastructure Foundation-Level Database (HIFLD) Working Group (WG) was established to identify, share, and protect homeland infrastructure geospatial information used for visualization and analysis on all classification domains. It now has over 3,000 members and contributing partners focused on identifying and facilitating acquisition of authoritative homeland infrastructure geospatial data, enhancing awareness and sharing of “best of breed” processes and technology.
